EVALUATION- Question 2 draft

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Jack Johnson's Better Together is an acoustic song. A lot of the artists shots were filmed in the woods which reflected quite an autumn/rustic look. We wanted to continue this throughout which is why I used pictures taken in the same location on my digipak to show some continuity. I used a wood textured font on the front of the digipak. I tried to use similar text fonts within my website and digipak to create some continuity there too.

The colour scheme I used on the website was mostly green and white. I wanted the colour scheme to reflect an identity for the artist. I kept it simplistic in order to illustrate the artist in the same sense. I used the same colour as the base to my digipak to create brand identity and link the colour green with Jack Johnson as an artist. The elements of my website will sell the song/artist and album to the audience as it creates an identity for the artist, something the audience can link their own personal likes and dislikes to. The website is very audience based as it includes various aspects that appeal to fans, for example the subscriber tab, the upcoming tour dates, social media links etc. These are all elements that the audience are interested in.

My digipak design will sell the song to the audience as it represents Jack Johnson as an artist and fans will like this. I wanted the back shot of him on the front cover to give the digipak some originality as many of the digipaks I researched had close up head shots of the artist and I wanted to steer away from doing that.

My website and digipak communicate the genre of our music video as the song is acoustic and I have kept with quite a simplistic, laid back theme throughout both website and digipak.

  1. Acoustic is not really a 'genre' as such so think about this. Think about the function of the ancillaries and promotion and marketing.
